Core Values of Evangel  Heights

  • We value God's interaction with the individual; saving, healing calling, and strengthening.
  • We value the individual's free choice to discover God.
  • We value the individual's participation in God's work to impact the lives of other people.  This participation may be defined by an individual's area of call and passion expressed but not limited to mission, evangelism, or social witness.
  • We value searching for God's truth primarily through Scripture but also through history and personal experience.
  • We value the church community as an extended family in Christ.

Welcome! Thank you for checking us out! Enjoy a warm welcome as people of diverse experiences seek to connect to God and each other. Whether it be worship, Sunday School classes or mid-week Bible studies and fellowship groups — you make our joy complete!

What is worship like at Evangel Heights?

Sunday morning worship reflects a blending of music (traditional hymns and praise choruses) accompanied by piano and organ and led by a song leader.  Prayers of various forms (sometimes in print, quiet reflection or led by the pastor) and choral or solo music also invite people into reflecting on a particular scriptural passage and message for the week.  Our goal is to be drawn into a deeper relationship with God so that we may face the challenges and celebrate the joys of life in community with God.

We almost always begin worship with the pastor saying, "This is the day the Lord has made."  And the people respond, "Let us rejoice and be glad in it" - a great affirmation from Psalm 118.

On most Sundays, children have a special time during worship with one of the worship leaders to allow them to experience the same lesson as the adults. Younger children (ages 3-6), who find it difficult to experience a full hour in the sanctuary, have opportunity to attend “Wee Worship” during the 8:45 service following the children’s message, if they choose. All school age children also have an option to go to children’s choir following the children’s message at 8:45 on the 2nd and 4th  Sundays of the month (school year only).

What about Nursery Care?

Nursery care is lovingly provided throughout the Sunday morning schedule from 10:00 to 12:00 noon for infants through age 2.  The nursery is located in the education hall, first room beyond the offices on your right.  The sound system allows for the worship service to be heard in the nursery.

Do we have communion?

Yes.  Typically the first Sunday of each month features the service of Holy Communion.  Other special services occur throughout the year.  The United Methodist Church practices "open communion", that is, you do not need to be a member of Evangel Heights in order to participate.  We welcome all who desire a closer walk with the Lord to partake.

Parking and Handicapped Accessibility

All parking is in back of the church accessed by either Colfax or Wilson Streets.  The north door (by the playground) has no steps and allows full access to all classrooms, office and Fellowship Hall.  The main entrance, at the center back of the church, has a ramp.  The main entrance is the closest entrance to the Sanctuary worship area.  Once inside, access to the Sanctuary is by chair lift attended by one of our ushers.  The main part of the Sanctuary is equipped with the Loop hearing system.  If your hearing aids are pre-set, please adjust them to receive the T-coil signal.  If not, a limited number of headsets are available at teh sound booth.  Large print bulletins and hearing assistance is also offered.  Please indicate your need to one of the ushers.

Prayer Lambs

A small stuffed lamb is in each pew.  These are our prayer lambs.  You may take one with you for your own need or pass it along to a friend or family members.  Thousands of lambs have been distributed across the nation and world to bring comfort to people who struggle physically, emotionally or spiritually.  The prayer lambs are a simple reminder, "You are not alone - God cares and so do we".

Sunday morning schedule options

Some begin Sunday morning at Evangel Heights with worship at 8:45 and then go to Sunday School at 10:00.  Sunday School is for all ages of children and youth and upwards of 6 - 7 adult classes (including a class with disabilities).

Some begin their experience with Sunday School at 10:00 and then attend the 11:00 service.  The services are generally identical, though the 11:00 service has a more intimate feel.
